On the evening of May 15, Cole Palmer broke the deadlock on the Brighton pitch with a stunning header in the 34th minute.

The English attacking midfielder sneaked into the penalty area to meet Marc Cucurella’s cross from the left flank, where he made a fantastic effort to head the ball into the far corner. It was Palmer’s 22nd goal of the season, placing him just behind Erling Haaland of Manchester City.

In total, Palmer has directly contributed to 32 goals in the top-flight English league and has made 10 assists. Despite only joining Chelsea from Manchester City last summer for £40 million, his contribution has surpassed what Chelsea legend Hazard achieved in the 2018/19 season – his final season at Stamford Bridge. Specifically, the Belgian winger was involved in 31 goals in that season, scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists.

Cole Palmer has officially surpassed Hazard in terms of goal contributions in a single Premier League season.

Not stopping there, Palmer has also matched the record of 22 goals – the highest ever in a single Premier League season for Chelsea, achieved by Frank Lampard in the 2009/10 season.

Palmer’s 27 goals across all competitions this season also equal Lampard’s best tally in the 2009/10 season. Only Didier Drogba (29 goals in the 2009/10 season) and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (23 goals in the 2000/01 and 2001/02 seasons) have scored more goals for Chelsea in a single Premier League campaign than Palmer.

Palmer’s header for Chelsea has helped him open the scoring for Mauricio Pochettino’s side on nine occasions in the highest league in England this season. This equals Chelsea’s best record in a single season along with Gianfranco Zola (1998/99 season), Drogba (2006/07 season), and Hazard (2014/15 season) – all of whom also achieved it nine times.
