The former Belgian midfielder, even after retiring, still causes Real Madrid to pay additional money to Chelsea.
Hazard, even though he retires, still costs Real money.
The Telegraph revealed that Chelsea will receive a £5 million bonus from the deal that sold Eden Hazard to Real Madrid five years ago.
Hazard was sold to Real in 2019 for an initial transfer fee of £130 million, with over £40 million in add-ons. One of these add-ons stipulated that Real Madrid would pay Chelsea an additional £5 million each time they reached a European cup final within five years, even if Hazard retired. Consequently, Real Madrid owes Chelsea a total of £10 million for reaching the Champions League finals twice from 2019 to 2024.
In June 2023, Real Madrid terminated Hazard’s contract 12 months early, and in October, Hazard retired at 33 due to persistent injuries, marking an unremarkable tenure at the club.
