According to Glen Johnson, Chelsea and Liverpool should seize the opportunity to sign a contract with Gabriel Jesus if Arsenal sell the forward in the summer.

At the beginning of the month, there was information that Arsenal was ready to listen to offers for the Brazilian international, who had experienced a disappointing season in an Arsenal shirt. Gabriel Jesus only contributed 8 goals this season and was replaced by Kai Havertz, who is frequently used by coach Mikel Arteta in the number 9 position.

Arsenal fans had high hopes for Jesus when he moved from Man City for £45 million in 2022, but the 27-year-old player has struggled with form and fitness in North London. Despite his unimpressive playing time at Arsenal, former Premier League defender Glen Johnson would be very surprised if Jesus were to be put up for sale this summer, but he asserts that the 1997-born player would be a fantastic signing for his former clubs, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Chelsea will be looking for a new striker this summer after Nicolas Jackson’s unstable first season at Stamford Bridge, while Liverpool may seek to bolster their attacking options ahead of the arrival of new manager Arne Slot.

When asked whether Chelsea and Liverpool should sign Jesus, Johnson told Betfred: “Yes, absolutely. I would be surprised if Arsenal really want to sell him because I think that would be crazy. If he’s available, Chelsea or Liverpool should be ready to make a move.

“He won’t get you 25 goals a season, but he will be an important part of the team and he’s worked very hard. If Arsenal let him go, then Chelsea and Liverpool should definitely seize the opportunity.”
